The Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific (more commonly known as COSPPac) is an Australian government multi-partner program that has evolved through various phases in the region going back to the early 1990s.

The Early Action Rainfall (EAR) Watch provides early warning of drought and prolonged wet periods, for early preparedness and response. The program is built on strong Gender and Social Inclusion principles. At our EAR Watch stakeholder workshop in August 2022, participants included representatives from FemLINK Pacific, also the Fiji Association for the Deaf.

Tuliana Waibuta (Fiji Association for the Deaf) taught Terry Atalifo (Acting Director, FMS) & Simon McGree (COSPPac Technical Science Lead) sign language for 'COSPPac'. The sign is similar to 'coral', which is the logo for COSPPac.

Being able to communicate with different communities in assorted styles is key to early warning and disaster resilience. The capacity, networks and insights of all community members are critical for effective and equitable actions to build resilient communities.
