Journalists and science communications officers from Pacific meteorological services were selected to participate in a two-day training in Tonga with the aim to form a Pacific Media team providing coverage of PMC-8 and the Ministerial meeting that follows.

This year’s meetings mark the Pacific meteorological community's reflection on the progress and achievements of the past ten years.

A two-day forum brought together representatives from key government departments and sectors to hear the latest climate information from the Niue Meteorological Service and discuss how El Niño may impact their respective sectors in the coming months.

A three-day training was carried out at the Niue Meteorological Service (NMS) to help strengthen the capacity of its Climate Services team to use a range of climate prediction tools and platforms in order to get the best possible climate outlooks and seasonal predictions for Niue.

When rainfall shifts and drought sets in, effects ripple far beyond the farm, reaching household nutrition, water security, livelihoods and community wellbeing.

The training focused on operating and maintaining GNSS, and on applying it to national priorities such as land administration, disaster risk management, and marine and coastal monitoring.

Tonga's first National El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Directive provides national guidance in a more coordinated mechanism to guide preparedness, coordination, communication and response across sectors to the impacts of El Niño and La Niña events.

17 February 2026 - A week-long coordination meeting aimed at progressing collaboration in the implementation of the programme, advancing climate and ocean services, including data, ICT and communication platforms, and reducing duplication across the Pacific region.

Tuvalu can now boast of housing a state-of-the-art Tide Gauge facility which will provide high quality sea level, climate and geodetic information that will assist with better planning and preparedness.
